Adobe Photoshop CS

Adobe Photoshop CS is one of the leading image design applications in the Industry today. It has a wide range of use in the arts and graphics industry. At ABCO, Adobe Photoshop is offered in two levels.

With Level 1, students will learn to use several tools for selecting parts of images, and will move, duplicate, and resize images. Students will also learn to use layers, and to apply layer effects and filters to create special effects, including lighting and texture effects. Additionally, students will use painting tools and blending modes to create shading effects, and will perform adjustments to contrast and color balance. Finally, students will save images in formats for print and Web use.

With Level 2 , students will learn skills to enhance their ability to create accurate masks, image effects, and retouch images. Develop understanding of isolating image areas by creating and saving masks with specialized tools, commands, modes, and layer elements. Use vector paths for a variety of purposes, including masking, clipping paths, and illustration. Create and apply creative elements such as gradients, patterns, and color overlays, and will generate special effects ranging from distorted type to simulating natural media paint realistically.

Level 1- After comleting this course, students will be able to:

  • Identify the differences between raster and vector graphics; identify Photoshop® environment elements; and navigate in the Photoshop® environment.

  • Select appropriate resolutions for different image and output types; and resize and crop image areas.

  • Select image areas using the Lasso, Marquee, and Magic Wand tools; and use alpha channels to save and load selections.

  • Create and manipulate multiple layers to composite images easily.

  • Apply blending and shading effects to create realistic composites.

  • Identify the image mode characteristics, channels and bit depth; identify attributes that distinguish grayscale mode from bitmap mode; and identify attributes that distinguish each color mode.

  • Select colors using the Color palette, Color Picker, and Eyedropper tool; use Photoshop's painting tools to create artwork or to retouch photographs; and use the Clone Stamp tool to duplicate parts of an image.

  • Add and format text within an image; apply layer effects and filters to create special effects including lighting effects and textures; and merge layers.

  • Modify the brightness, contrast, color balance, hue, and saturation of images.

  • Save images in file formats for use with other applications and the Web.

Level 2 - Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

  • Use the Background Eraser, Quick Mask mode, alpha channels, and layer masks to isolate image areas quickly and accurately, even for images with indistinct edges and very fine details.

  • Create clipping masks to use one layer's contents to mask another's; and create vector paths as tools for selecting images, for creating transparent areas in images to be used with other applications, and for drawing shapes.

  • Create color swatches, gradients, and patterns.

  • Distort type by warping it, wrapping it on a path, and transforming it; create layer comps to quickly compare multiple versions of a document; retouch and restore old damaged photographs; and simulate natural media painted effects.

  • Automate multi-step processes with actions and batch processing.

Course Duration

 

A working knowledge of your computer, operating system and the Internet is sufficient requirement for this course.

  

Both level 1 and level 2 are 16 hours. As such, the total duration for this course is 32 hours.
