Microsoft Certified Desktop Technician (MCDST)

The Microsoft Certified Desktop Support Technician (MCDST) credential proves that you have the skills to successfully support end users and to successfully troubleshoot desktop environments running on the Microsoft Windows® operating system. MCDST certification will get you started in your IT career by ensuring you have the skills to successfully troubleshoot desktop environments running on the Microsoft Windows® operating system.

After completing this course, students will be able to:

  • Perform and troubleshoot an attended installation of the Windows operating systems.

  • Perform post installation configuration (user configuration, apply service packs, etc.).

  • Answer end user questions related to upgrading from a previous version of Windows.

  • Troubleshoot system startup and user logon problems.

  • Monitor, manage, and troubleshoot access to files and folders.

  • Troubleshoot connecting to local and network print devices.
    Configure and troubleshoot hardware devices and drivers storage devices, display devices, network protocols and services and advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI).

  • Troubleshoot security settings and local security policy.

  • Configure and troubleshoot local user and group accounts.

  • Troubleshoot the TCP/IP protocol, troubleshoot Internet Connection Firewall (ICF) settings.

  • Configure and troubleshoot end user systems using remote Desktop and Remote Assistance

MCDST is a new certification introduced by Microsoft to deliver desktop technician skills for beginners. Upon completion of this certification, students will be able to obtain employment as:

  • Support Specialist

  • Technical Engineer

  • Help desk representative

  • Desktop Support Engineer

Students are required to complete two exams in order to obtain this certification.
 

Prerequisites

  

Course Duration

 

Before attending this course, students must have:

  • Basic experience using a Microsoft Windows Operating system such as Microsoft Windows XP.

  • A basic understanding of Microsoft Office applications and Microsoft Windows accessories, including Internet Explorer.

  • Basic understanding of core operating system technologies including installation and configuration.

  • A basic understanding of hardware components and their functions.

  • A basic understanding of the major desktop components and interfaces, and their functions.

  • A basic understanding of TCP/IP settings. How to use command-line utilities to manage the operating system.

  • A basic understanding of technologies that are available for establishing Internet connectivity.

 

To obtain this certification, students are required to complete training and exams in two courses. Each course will take 24 hours to complete. So the entire duration of the course will be about 48 hours. At ABCO Technology, students can select a 3 day boot camp for each course or spread the training program over 6 weeks
